Recent Volcanic Activity

Several volcanoes have erupted in the past few months - two in Chile (Chaiten and Llaima) and one in Alaska (Okmok). At any given time, approximately 20 to 50 volcanoes are active worldwide (depending on the definition of "active"). Collected here are photos of volcanic events from the the past several years, seen from many angles, including low Earth Orbit.
The crew of the International Space Station observed Mt. Etna's eruption on October 30th, 2002. The lighter-colored plumes downslope and north of the summit are produced by forest fires set by lava flowing into the pine forests on the slope of the mountain. Russia's Kliuchevskoi Volcano, seen erupting on September 30, 1994. Astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour snapped photos as the eruption cloud reached 60,000 feet above sea level, and the winds carried ash as far as 640 miles southeast. The Tiger temple in Thailand

The tiger temple in Thailand is a place where an extraordinary bond between man and the world's biggest cats has been formed.. The tigers here are so peaceful…its almost as if they have accepted Buddhism as their religion. In fact, they even sit for the meditating sessions with the monks and kneel down in front of them as it they are the gurus. The tigers are so docile that the monks have to sometimes train them to fight otherwise they would lose all their power of self protection..

The link started in 1999 when a sick baby tiger, orphaned after poachers shot its mother, was brought to the monks. Within a few years several other tiger cubs similarly orphaned by poachers had arrived. The most amazing thing is none of the cubs turned out ferocious on growing up. The monks believe that these tigers are none other than the former buddhist disciples who have taken rebirth in the same place.

Solar Charging Case 4 iPhone

The case provides protection to your iPhone from scratches and smudges. And the most important is while you clip the case on your belt with the iPhone inserted in it, and you’re exposed to sunlights, the case will start collecting sun juice and charging its internal battery, which can be used to power up your iPhone later.

An iPhone case that comes equipped with a solar cell which soaks up sun juice to charge your iPhone is definitely a great idea. The solar charging case from Brando is just what we’re talking about here which keeps your iPhone juiced up in the green and handy way.

iBikeConsole

The iBikeConsole is specially designed for bikers who’re music addicts. It lets you have full controls on your iPod Nano, without needing you to move your hands away from the grips. The device can be attached to a visible position which is free from rain and shock harming it.

The device also adds extra feature for your safety i.e. it shows you your current speed on the iPod’s display, which can act as a reminder that you need to slow down if your bike is going too fast. It also shows the trip distance and some other essential information on the iPod’s display. It’s compatible with all three generations of iPod nano and carries a price tag of $76.

SanDisk introduces slot Music - Music on microSD card

SanDisk has proposed their new idea of having music stored on a microSD card or slotMusic and each album is expected to sell at about $7-$10. Our storage devices are getting smaller and smaller these days. It shouldn’t be too much surprise having music stored on a microSD card after they’ve done it in a USB stick.
Music on a tiny microSD card wouldn’t sound so nice for giving it as a gift to others. The music on a CD is the more preferred gift due to the size, and it definitely looks nicer once wrapped in a gift wrapper. Lets say giving it as a birthday gift.

The slotMusic will be available in various stores in the States such as Walmart and BestBuy starting next year. And check out more on slotMusic

Illegal Gold Mining in "GHANA"

Fevered by hopes of striking it rich, illegal miners claw sacks of "money stone"—gold ore—from the Pra River in Ghana. Their toil feeds the world's hunger for gold, and leaves a ruined landscape in its wake.It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people in Ghana have been evicted from farms to make way for multinational mining interests in the last 20 years.
They are offered very little in return.

India's Mission Moon

Mission Sequence
  • Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR, Sriharikota by PSLV-XL (PSLV-C11) on 22 October 2008 at 06:22 hrs.
  • Subsequently, the spacecraft's Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) firing was done on 23 October at 09:00 hrs IST.
  • The orbit was further raised to 336 km x 74,715 km on 25 October at 05:48 hrs IST. In this orbit, spacecraft took about twenty-five and a half hours to orbit the Earth once.
  • The LAM was fired again on 26 October at 07:08 hrs IST. Chandrayaan-1 took about 73 hours to go round the Earth once.
  • On 29 October,Chandrayaan’s present orbit extends more than half the way to moon and takes about six days to orbit the Earth.
  • On 4 November, Chandrayaan entered the Lunar Transfer Trajectory with an apogee of 380,000 km.
  • On 8 November, the spacecraft’s Liquid engine was fired to reduce its velocity to insert the spacecraft in the lunar orbit (LOI) and enable lunar gravity to capture it. As a result, the spacecraft was in an elliptical orbit with periselene (nearest point to the moon) of 504 km and aposelene (farthest point from the moon) of 7,502 km.
  • The first orbit reduction manoeuvre was carried out successfully on 9 November. Thus the spacecraft was in lunar orbit with 200 km periselene. The aposelene remains unchanged (i.e 7,502 km).
  • After careful and detailed observation, a series of three orbit reduction manoeuvres were successfully carried out and the spacecraft’s orbit was reduced to its intended operational 100 km circular polar orbit on November 12.
  • On 14 November at 20:06 hrs IST, the Moon Impact Probe (MIP) was ejected from the Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft and after 25 minutes journey. It placed the Indian tricolour, which was pasted on the sides of MIP on the Moon.
